I started smoking weed when I was 16 years old and caught by mom. I had to quit for a while. Spice had been out for a couple of years, but I hadn’t known about it until I did. People had told me about it saying it didn’t show up in drug tests. So I knew I had to get some. I was with my friend Tommy in Myrtle Beach. We went to this smoke shop that literally had 30 different kinds of spice.
Honestly speaking, it felt like a kid in a candy shop, looking at all these bright colored packs with cartoon characters like Scooby Doo and sponge bob on them. It’s disgusting how they target kids. Anyways the man behind the counter was super sketchy. I remember there was a kind called Head Trip. We asked him if it made your trip and he kicked us out of his shop. They know what kids are using it for.
But to be safe, they don’t want you saying anything about it making you high. (It’s labeled herbal incense but we all know this ground-up plant matter cannot be burned as incense. It’s sad that something this obvious was actually allowed to be sold in the first place.) So we actually had to get a stranger to walk in and buy it for us.
We told him we wanted the most potent stuff and in exchange, he wanted a couple bowls out of the bag for himself. He comes outside with a bright blue bag called OMG with a picture of Dopey, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. They really catch your eye and look interesting.
The cool animations on the packet almost take your mind off of the fact that inside is just a bunch of plant pattern. That is sprayed with random chemicals that mess your brain up. Anyways we got the pack and drove to the mall and smoked some before going inside and it was great.
It was an intense high, but it definitely was different from marijuana. I smoked it about 10 more times after that day on various occasions throughout the next couple of years. But then it started getting weird.
I smoked a joint of this brand called Green Cobra with some friends of mine, and a couple of them had never tried Spice. We all burned it, and I just remember having the worst anxiety. It was like everything I thought was a bad thought and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t stop the fear and paranoia.
My friend Johnathon and I started running into this tree line and fell on the ground. Suddenly, I started screaming bloody murder which really did it for me. I thought he was dying and I was scared. My friend literally had to knock him out to stop him from screaming because we were scared the neighbors would call the cops. He finally came to and said he didn’t remember anything. And this wasn’t even the worst trip.
Another time, I and some friends smoked it and this dude locked up and actually puked on himself which scared me. Last but not least, the trip that changed my life forever. My best friend and I were staying at another friend’s house, and a buddy of his was living with him as well.
He was the only one old enough to buy spice, so we had him get us some. We told him to get the strongest kind which ended up being called Sonic Zero, but this spice was actually held in a small glass vile, not a packet. So we bought the Sonic Zero and stopped by the grocery store to get some stuff and we all smoked.
I smoked about 4 good hits and then all of a sudden I looked at the headrest of the passenger seat. I got the scariest tunnel vision which told me right there that this was going to be intense. We walked in, and I’m already feeling dread.
It was so anxious and fearful and just so uncomfortably high. I remember we got to the soda aisle and the tunnel vision would come in spurts. It would only happen for a second, and it was like I was about to lose my mind but then I would snap back to reality, and it happened over and over.
It was the scariest thing I’ve ever been through. You literally feel like you’re dying. What made it worse is the guy who bought it for us. He had a seizure right there in the store in front of people and to cover up the truth my friend said: “oh my gosh it must be his medicine.” We all got out of there and went home, and my dumb ass thought I had learned the trick.
Eventually, I thought I wouldn’t smoke, but every time after that I was so anxious and scared. I couldn’t even smoke weed without having full-blown panic attacks. Conclusion: Spice is the devil’s poison and the people who make it have no soul or conscious.
I wouldn’t wish the crap on my worst enemy, and the fact that you can still buy it online pisses me off. If I could, I would shut down every online company and imprison the people who make it. All they care about is money and do not care that it is ruining people.
I have not been the same since I feel like. I’ve been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and have flashbacks every now and then which are really scary. I’m a hypochondriac now. If something ever doesn’t feel right in my body, I freak out and think the worst.
Do not smoke this stuff, it is the absolute worst thing you can put in your body. The only thing that comforts me now is Jesus.
